Quilting

The Pond at Greenberry

This quilt was inspired by the pond in the back garden of my condo. I created it using techniques developed by Jan Krentz and shared with us in her book Diamond Landscapes and Beyond. The pieced diamonds create the background for the fish and lily pads which are appliqued onto the background before quilting.

Kuen’s Garden

This is the third quilt in a series of One Block Wonders I’ve been working on for the last year. The original fabric was from a collection of Australian nature prints. The quilt was a gift for a friend. It was machine pieced and machine quilted

Edward Scissor Beak

Well…Nancy’s done it again! Another fabulous quilt project finished. She completed this and got it hung up yesterday just in time for me to take this picture before I had to head home. My picture does not do it justice.
Edward Scissor Beak by Nancy Laffin

Designed, pieced and quilted by Nancy Laffin. She used Ruth B. McDowell’s paper piecing technique as her construction method and Edward Scissor Beak was begun during one of Ruth’s classes at an Empty Spools Seminar (at Asilomar) in March 2009.

Zoe’s Lesson

Zoe\'s Lesson

This was a collaborative effort by me, Miss Bird (Sharon) and Harriet Bird (our cousin).  We made it for my beloved granddaughter Zoë.  We entered it in the State Fair in 2001 and it received three awards, First Place, Best of Class, and a Technical Textile Award.  This scan is not the best picture. The quilt hangs in my daughter’s hallway. I will get some close up pictures of the detail silk ribbon embroidery work and the crazy quilt border when I can.

A work still in progress for my Grandson Biddy (Louis).

Scotty Dogs for Baby Costan

Scotty Dog Baby Quilt

I made this quilt in July of 2007 for my assistant at work who was having a girl. Sharon made the darling label.

This is a scan from a snapshot taken while it was on display at the Caifornia State Fair. This took a second place award at the California State Fair in 2002. It also received a special invitation to be displayed in an exclusive quilt show at the California Governer’s Offices in the State Capitol building. It is a combination of machine piecing, machine and hand applique, hand and machine embellishment, inkjet printed fabric, and machine quilting.
