Crab Bags
By Nancy Laffin
I used a Simplicity (9658) pattern to make my custom Crab Bags that I gave to some friends for Christmas 2007. Sharon (aka Miss Bird) digitized the crab and each of the initials that were embroidered on the front. Each Crab Bag contained 2 crab rolls (quilted place mat, bib, napkin, crab pick, crab cracker), 1 plastic butter holder, 1 ceramic crab butter melter with votive candle and 1 lighter. This bag is a necessity if you like to go to Crab Feeds. The inside of the bag is insulated and a removable insulated divider turns the bag into a wine tote. Don’t forget your crab hats!
Every Day’s A Picnic With You!
By Nancy Laffin & Sharon Constant
Are you ready for a picnic? We are! This is my bag that Miss Bird made me for Christmas 2003. We made them for our friends out of a khaki colored denim personalized with their names. We made the blanket out of flannel and backed it with a heavy duty vinyl so if the grass is damp, you won’t get a wet butt. The blanket rolls up and fits in the satchel. We treated them all with Scotchguard for easy clean up. Kept in the trunk of my car, I am ready for any game, concert in the park, or picnic lunch.
Embroidered Etui (French Sewing Box)
By Sharon Constant
This is a six-sided French sewing box. I made a few of them as gifts. They were great fun to make. I did the embroidery layout in Generations. The design was inspired by a free design from Designs in Machine Embroidery. I stitched out the panels on my 6-needle Brother PR-600, then used Aileens glue to adhere the Ultra Suede and lining pieces to thick cardboard. The knob on the lid is a button I picked up at Stone Mountain and Daughter Fabrics in Berkeley, California. Before giving them away, I filled them with wonderful notions and threads.
